The Importance of Being Cheerful

To the pessimists out there who are probably sneering at my topic of the day, well...
just remember that the only person losing out on all the happiness in this world is only you.

So what if life had given you a rough deal? There are others who had experienced something even worse and yet they still have some optimism in their hearts.

If we are sick we can just go to the doctor and get a prescription.
But what happens when it is our souls that are sick?

This is the very cause of all the unhappiness, pessimism and scepticism in this world.

However when and if we choose to be cheerful and have a sunny disposition we will find that the world and those around us will respond in kind.
Suddenly that sour-faced ogre that we see everyday in the corridor turned out to be a kind and nice person after all.

What I'm trying to say here is to give others a chance. We can do this by just smiling and saying something as simple as 'Hi' or 'How are you?'
We tend to think that this sort of thing is insignificant and a waste of time but actually there are tons of people out there who appreciate a kind word or gesture that we show to them.

Anyway, studies have shown that having a sunny disposition helps us live a longer and healthier life! So, go ahead..make someone's day. Smile and say 'hi' to them! They might just say 'Hi' back and who knows, you might even make a new friend.
